Repairs to the pick-by-light system
Repairs to the pick-by-light system are very rare and are usually necessary due to mechanical damage. We explain the reasons for repairs and show you what is repaired and what is replaced. What does the warranty cover?
Reasons for repairs to the pick-by-light system
There are not many reasons for repairs to a pick-by-light system. The electronic components have been tried and tested for many years and are very stable. The cabling is simple and the BUS system in the sub-profiles is protected against electrical interference.
Here are some reasons for the infrequent repairs in practice:
- Mechanical damage to compartment displays caused by forklifts or pallets.
- Damage to cabling due to improper use or lack of impact protection.
- Changeover of network structures (firewall) with termination of data connections.
- Changing the software versions of warehouse management systems (SAP update) without prior consultation.
Most of the damage we see in practice is mechanical damage caused by forklifts hitting incorrectly stacked pallets. The other reasons for repairs are negligible in percentage terms.
Protection against mechanical defects
The design of our pick-by-light compartment displays is very robust, consisting of aluminum profiles that click together. Unlike other competitors' products with plastic housings, our solution is much more resistant to mechanical damage.
Of course, every mechanism has its limits. Only robust impact protection can withstand the force exerted by a forklift or heavy pallet.
The pick-by-light compartment indicators can only be mechanically protected to a limited extent. The order picker must be able to see the signal light and the quantity indicator clearly. After picking the item, they must also confirm the quantity picked by pressing the confirmation button.
Replacement or repair of components
The individual Pick-by-Light compartment displays and controllers are equipped with microprocessors and complex electronics. Mechanically damaged modules can only be repaired in our authorized specialist workshop. In most cases, however, the components are replaced. Often, repair is no longer possible due to the defects.
Guarantee and warranty
When does the warranty apply and when does it not? The answer to this question is very simple: if there is a mechanical defect, the warranty does not apply. In some cases, however, we are very accommodating and replace the defective components free of charge. Find out more about the warranty for the pick-by-light system in a separate article.
