of a pick-by-light system
Maintenance and servicing of our pick-by-light systems is simple and can also be carried out by the customer's trained specialist personnel. The pick-by-light displays and controllers are virtually maintenance-free.
Why maintenance?
Our pick-by-light components are essentially maintenance-free. The controllers feature passive ventilation, eliminating the need to replace filter mats or active fans. The compartment displays are very robust and professionally constructed from strong aluminum.
The mechanical acknowledgment button can guarantee several million keystrokes, is practically indestructible, and does not need to be replaced. No membrane keys are used. The flat keys of the PTF-S series are capacitive and can even be operated with work gloves.
In practice, however, it turns out that some employees treat the system very carelessly. The specialist displays are often subjected to strong mechanical impact. In some cases, the cabling is also affected.
Our pick-by-light systems are often crucial to the quality and performance of pickers in picking, assembly stations, and production. For this reason, we recommend regular on-site maintenance of the systems. This must be carried out by trained personnel.
This includes maintenance.
To ensure smooth operation, the following maintenance work is carried out on the pick-by-light system:
- Checking the data availability of all pick-by-light components (via our software).
- Check the wiring and connection terminals.
- Investigation of mechanical damage to the compartment indicators.
- Activation of the zone test and checking of the buttons and LEDs.
- Visual inspection of the pick-by-light controllers.
- Testing and checking additional components such as scanners, RFID, scales, etc.
- Review of documentation and spare parts.
On-site maintenance measures can be carried out by us or by trained personnel from the customer.
Expert tip:
For specialist displays with horizontal mounting (e.g., on the side of conveyor technology) and heavy soiling from cardboard, the displays should be vacuumed regularly. This prevents large dust particles from accumulating on the confirmation button. If the contamination is very heavy, we offer compartment displays with touch confirmation (without mechanical buttons) instead of the standard version.
Software service
A pick-by-light system consists not only of hardware, but also of software. It is not only the connections to the higher-level system that are crucial for the stable operation of the systems. Software servicing is also one of the important measures for maintaining operation. Software servicing is carried out very easily via remote maintenance (VPN) and is performed by us.
What the software service includes
The LUCA software is installed on a customer-provided server system (Windows or Linux). A stable and fast online connection to the LUCA-Server is LUCA-Server to use the software.
The following service work will be performed:
- Investigation of the internal LUCA log file system and the automatic reorganization of files.
- Monitoring system performance and utilization of system resources (memory, CPU, hard disk capacity).
- Review of the database and utilization (possible reorganization of data).
- Checking backup mechanisms and switching to the backup server (hot swap) if necessary.
- Testing the automatic autostart mechanisms during a restart.
- Checking the update mechanisms of the operating system and virus scanners.
Regular servicing of the software ensures that the system remains high-quality and stable. Automatic updates of the operating system and virus scanner are particularly sensitive software components that require careful coordination between us and the customer's IT department.
Maintenance and service contracts
We offer our customers maintenance and service contracts for complex plants and critical, production-related systems. There are various models that are developed individually in collaboration with the customer. In standard cases, maintenance is carried out once a year.
