eLocation
Today, almost every car and smartphone has GPS (Global Positioning System). This allows for relatively accurate positioning outdoors. eLocation
Locating the items
eLocation® enables precise tracking of objects equipped with transmitters. In addition to 3D position, the transmitters can provide the LUCA system with additional information, such as tilt, north-pointing orientation, and acceleration. For example, the following items can be tracked and managed appropriately:

Monitoring Access to Storage Locations
The eLocation® Watch is a solution in which small eLocation® transmitters are attached to thepicker’s wrist(watch). In the LUCA system, storage locations are configured within the monitored area. When the picker enters an area configured as a storage location, the system verifies whether the access was authorized:
- If the access is incorrect, an error message is generated (light, voice, horn, etc.)
- If the access is valid, an automatic withdrawal confirmation can be issued
In high-performance order picking, this method eliminates the need for manual confirmation of item picks. TheeLocation®-Watchensures quality in accordance with thePoka-Yoke principleand significantly boosts performance.
UWB technology
Der Einsatz von Ultra Wide Band-Technologie bei INDOOR-Navigation ermöglicht uns eine Erfassung der aktiven Sender mit einer Genauigkeit von wenigen Zentimetern. Im Gegensatz zu herkömmlichen Funktechnologien (wie Bluetooth oder Wi-Fi) arbeitet UWB mit Flugzeit des Signals und nicht auf Basis der Signalstärken RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication). Die sehr steil ansteigenden UWB-Funk-Impulse sind sehr schmal (< 2 Nanosekunden) und können in einer “lauten” Funk-Umgebung sehr gut für präzise Entfernungsmessungen verwendet werden.

The exact time difference between the arrival of the signals at the synchronized receivers is based on the TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) principle.
System Components
eLocation® consists of active transmitters attached to moving objects and receivers permanently installed in the monitored area. Thetransmittersare equipped with long-life batteries but can also be connected to an external power source (e.g., a forklift).
Thereceiversare supplied with data and power via Ethernet (PoE) using a network cable. The data from the receivers is processed in aneLocation® controllerand sent to the LUCA-Server via LAN.
Battery life
The battery-powered transmitter uses only a short burst of power to send a UWB message. As a result, the energy required is very low compared to other wireless technologies. Depending on the set frequency of the UWB messages (> 20 ms), the battery life can beup to 7 years.
