Commissioning of the Pick-to-Light system

Here you will learn how the commissioning of a Pick-to-Light system proceeds in detail. You will learn how the system is prepared, started and technically commissioned.

Prerequisites for Pick-to-Light commissioning

Before commissioning, the following work should be completed:

  1. Installation of the Pick-to-Light profiles including cabling. The connection terminals with the covers are not closed first.
  2. The individual compartment displays should not be built into the profiles at first.
  3. The Pick-to-Light controllers should be mechanically fastened and electrically connected. The plugs for the supply lines should not be plugged in at first.

1. first the measurement of the wiring takes place

To perform the measurement, the terminals must first be accessible (no covers). The wiring of a Pick-to-Light system is not complicated and consists only of a 4-core cable. However, the individual wires of the cable must be correctly connected to the appropriate terminal. The whole system is a BUS. If an error occurs during installation and all displays are already installed, the error is not easy to find (more about: Pick-to-Light installation).

Measurements should be made at each terminal for short circuit or reversal.

Measurements are made with a standard measuring device, e.g. continuity meter with a beep sound.
If an error was found in the wiring, it must first be corrected, which is done very easily by exchanging the individual wires of the wiring.

2. switching on of the controllers and installation of the Pick-to-Light displays

Once all the wiring has been tested, the compartment displays can be installed and the connectors connected to the controllers.

We always switch on the controllers first and plug in the connectors. The voltage (24V) and the data signals on the Pick-to-Light rails are now available. After that, the Pick-to-Light-subject displays are very simply clicked into the profiles at the corresponding positions. This is done without tools and without additional wiring.

Our tip: When clicking in the compartment displays, please pay attention to the flashing LED of the number of pieces. If the display communicates with the controller, the dot of a 7-segment display flashes briefly.

Once all displays have been installed and reported to the control software, the electrical part of the commissioning is complete. Now the system can be configured. We describe the configuration in a separate article: Pick-to-Light Configuration.

3. installation of the covers and completion of commissioning

At the end of commissioning, the covers are clicked in place over the terminals for protection. In some installations, the spaces between the displays are also covered with lids. In principle, this is not necessary and may also have optical aspects.

Conclusion

The commissioning of a Pick-to-Light system is not difficult, but should be done in a certain series rim. First, check all the wiring. Only then switch on the controllers and click in the compartment displays. After that, the system can be configured.
