Commissioning of the Pick-to-Light system

Here you can find out how the commissioning of a Pick-to-Light system works in detail. You will learn how the system is prepared, started and technically commissioned.

Requirements for commissioning Pick-to-Light

The following work should be completed before commissioning:

  1. Installation of the Pick-to-Light profiles including cabling. The connection terminals with the covers are not closed at first.
  2. The individual compartment displays should not be built into the profiles at first.
  3. The Pick-to-Light controllers should be mechanically attached and electrically connected. The plugs for the supply lines should not be plugged in at first.

1. the cabling is measured first

To carry out the measurement, the terminals must first be accessible (no covers). The wiring of a Pick-to-Light system is not complicated and only consists of a 4-wire cable. However, the individual wires of the cable must be correctly connected to the appropriate terminal. The entire system is a BUS. If an error occurs during installation and all displays are already installed, the error is not easy to find (more about: Pick-to-Light installation).

Measurements should be carried out at each connection terminal to check for short circuits or reversed connections.

The measurements are carried out using a standard measuring device, e.g. a continuity meter with a beep tone.
If a fault is detected in the cabling, it must first be corrected, which is done very simply by swapping the individual wires of the cabling.

2. switching on the controllers and installing the Pick-to-Light compartment displays

Once the entire cabling has been tested, the compartment displays can be installed and the plugs connected to the controllers.

We always switch on the controllers first and plug in the connectors. The voltage (24V) and the data signals on the Pick-to-Light rails are now available. The Pick-to-Light displays are then simply clicked into the profiles at the appropriate positions. This is done without tools and without additional cabling.

Our tip: When clicking in the compartment displays, please pay attention to the flashing LED for the number of pieces. If the display is communicating with the controller, the dot of a 7-segment display flashes briefly.

Once all the displays have been installed and reported to the control software, the electrical part of commissioning is complete. The system can now be configured. We describe the configuration in a separate article: Pick-to-Light Configuration.

3. installation of the covers and completion of commissioning

To complete commissioning, the covers are clicked over the connection terminals for protection. In some systems, the spaces between the displays are also covered with covers. This is generally not necessary and may also have visual aspects.

Conclusion

Commissioning a Pick-to-Light system is not difficult, but should be carried out in a certain order. First check all the wiring. Only then are the controllers switched on and the compartment displays clicked into place. The system can then be configured.
